When Jamie Catto (Faithless, 1 Giant Leap) met Aluta Lichaba in South Africa to write and record her duet with Michael Stipe for the new 1 Giant Leap song ‘I Have Seen Trouble’, he made a mental promise to get back there as soon as possible and make a whole album with her.
Jamie Catto and Duncan Bridgeman travelled for 7 months through all 5 continents, and recorded in over 50 locations to create the most inspiring film and album they could imagine. Their mission was not only to gather insights on the huge universal themes of life from the most inspiring and illuminating people they could find, but also to seek out the cream of the world's musicians and compose immense multi-layered music with them.
I was so blown away when I received my first royalty cheque from Faithless that I spent the whole lot on the first Happening album which we recorded in what was then Dave Stewart’s Church Studios in London, as a kind of thank you to the Gods and Goddesses of music for allowing me to make a living from music.
The second Happening was recorded in Berlin. We were invited by entrepeneur Albrecht Van Sontag and his wife Suzy to record in their home. Suzy sang beautifully on the album and this time the theme was somewhere between a merry band of pirates and a WW2 drama set in Russia and France.

I wanted to make an album to feel deeper, to access some of the feelings and the tears that are harder to cry. Alex Forster and I began recording in India and then invited various musicians to join us in creating an album to dissolve into, to immerse ourselves in the inner world of our senses and our raw emotions.
